Building The Transparent Plastic Greenhouse

Not even greenhouse gardening could escape the advances of modern technology. It used to be the only kind of greenhouse you could have was one that was built with glass.

However, thanks to the advancements made in chemistry, you can now have a greenhouse that is made from plastic. There are many people who choose to have a plastic greenhouse.

Greenhouses which are made with plastic are usually made from one of two types of plastic. The greenhouse can be made with either smooth transparent sheets of polyethylene and vinyl film. Or, you could have a greenhouse that is made from corrugated plastic or special types of plastic. These types of plastic include Fiberglas, Al-synite, Mylar, Filon, and Corrolux.

The type of plastic you use for your greenhouse is going to depend upon what your exact needs for your greenhouse are. If you just need something that can be built quickly, cheaply, and doesn't have to last for a long period of time; the smooth film plastic is your answer. This would come in handy if you experience a sudden need for additional growing space for a seasonal plant.

If, on the other hand, you need plastic that will be more durable, and long lasting, corrugated plastic is what you would want to use. The corrugated types of plastic are more expensive. However, corrugated plastic will last you a long time and stand up well to the elements. In fact, scientific tests done on the durability of corrugated plastic show that it can last up to 25 years. That means you could have your corrugated plastic greenhouse 25 years from now and it won't be deteriorated at all.

If your barrier to entry into the greenhouse plant growing business is due to the cost of greenhouse glass, never fear. An economical alternative would be to get one glazed with transparent plastic. You'll pay a fraction of the cost you would for greenhouse glass. If you're completely new, and not sure this is something you will succeed or want to pursue full time, it will still give you the benefit and experience of growing plants in a greenhouse. If you are successful and find that you really enjoy it, you can use your profits to get greenhouse glass later.
